Condo Boom to Blame?
With ever more condos coming up in the downtown Toronto core, public transportation is feeling the strain. Condo developments are being built a few metres away from the Gardiner, in previously undeveloped land yet solutions to the ever growing downtown population and their accompanied density on the roads and buses makes traveling through the city already a challenge. More is to come:
After decades of GTA sprawl, people and jobs are coming back to the core. According to a recent TTC report, the downtown population, now at 71,000, is expected to almost double to 130,000 by 2031. At the same time the number of jobs, now at 315,000, will increase to 404,000.More condos are slated for development, for better or for worse. Density is a major concern for all large cities, and Toronto is no exception.
